The Deputy PM made the request today in Hà Nội at a videoconference with 63 local leaders to review two-year implementation of the Decision 1956/QĐ-TTg, dated November 21, 2009 on vocational training for rural workers through 2020 (Project 1956 in short).

Over the past two years, around 800,000 turns of people were given vocational training and over 70% of the trained workers have found jobs. However, a string of shortcomings still remain.

To achieve the above target, the Committee needs to inspect vocational training for rural laborers at least biennially and review promulgated policies prior to February 27 this year.

Locally, provincial authorities must overcome the shortage of local-level subprojects, staff for district-level vocational training, sub-steering committees in 11% of disrtricts and 27% of communes across the country, and human resource development planning schemes of nine provinces.

In February, localities have to review vocational training for rural laborers within their administrative boundaries, Deputy PM Nhan requested.

For rural laborers, the Deputy PM suggested that they should know exactly what they will do before registering vocational training.

The objective of the Project 1956 is to secure rural laborers’ equal opportunity to vocational training on the basis of market demand and in close combination with local socio-economic development plans and strategies.
