Nguyen Thanh Tung, 23, won a silver medal for CNC Milling, while Nguyen Xuan Thai, 23, won a silver for Turning CNC, the championship’s organizing committee announced Monday.

Both Tung and Thai came from the DENSO Training Academy in Hanoi, and were guided by Truong The Dieu and Pham Van Quoc, two former candidates of the WorldSkills championship in 2019, where they secured one silver medal.

In the CNC Milling category this year, among the 22 participating nations, China won the gold medal, and Japan bronze. In the CNC Turning category, China won a gold medal, while Thailand and Japan won silver.

The WorldSkills championship is held once every two years. This year’s competition was supposed to take place in 2021 in China but had to be postponed due to impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The competition is reserved for workers aged below 22, with some vocation skills allowing candidates aged 25 and below. It has been organized 45 times, attracting hundreds of candidates from around 100 countries and territories around the world.

Vietnam has participated in the competition eight times starting 2007.
