Vietnam scores two among top chicken dishes in the world
Two Vietnamese dishes, lemongrass chicken and chicken curry, have earned spots among the top 100 chicken dishes in the world, according to a ranking by TasteAtlas, an international food website.
The results, which reflect both the preferences of diners and the insights of food experts, were compiled from over 13,000 ratings recorded by the end of August.
Ranked 80th on the list, lemongrass chicken is a popular dish in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam. This meal is made from chicken pieces marinated with lemongrass, fish sauce, and various seasonings.
The chicken is stir-fried in oil and then simmered in liquid until tender. It is commonly served with hot rice or noodles, and some cooks add coconut juice during simmering for extra flavor.
Vietnamese chicken curry ranks 89th, offering a local twist on Indian curry.
The dish features chicken, potatoes, carrots, and a blend of herbs and spices such as lemongrass, fish sauce, and curry powder.
Ideally, the chicken is marinated overnight to enhance the flavors. The curry is typically served with white rice, rice vermicelli or baguette.
Both lemongrass chicken and chicken curry were also ranked 36th and 39th, respectively, on the list of the "65 Best Chicken Dishes in Asia" by TasteAtlas in February.
Korean fried chicken tops the global list. Pollo al acuyo, a Mexican dish where chicken is wrapped in hoja santa leaves - a Mexican herb - and fried, comes in second. The third spot goes to Musakhan, a Palestinian dish featuring roasted chicken served atop bread soaked in olive oil.
