Various activities to welcome Lunar New Year Festival abroad

The Lunar New Year of the Goat is coming and for the occasion overseas Vietnamese have organized many activities to welcome the great traditional festival of their motherland.

The Consulate General of Vietnam in Osaka, Japan, held a meeting to celebrate the Lunar New Year, on February 8th.

Nearly 300 guests representing the government, businesses, associations, friendship organizations and international friends in Kansai attended the meeting to share the joy and unity with the Vietnamese community, students and trainees.

At the meeting, Mr. Tran Duc Binh, Vietnamese Consulate General in Osaka emphasized the   importance and remarkable results of the relationship and cooperation between Vietnam and Japan in 2014, which was upgraded to a strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia during the official visit to Japan by President Truong Tan Sang in March 2014.

He also appreciated the efforts of the Vietnamese community in Kansai with nearly 15,000 expatriates, students and trainees, who have always united and worked hard to bring benefit to their homeland, contributing to the development of the country and strengthening the relations and cooperation between Vietnam and Japan.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Mayor of Sakai city, Secretary- General of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Association in Kansai congratulated the important achievements that Vietnam achieved in 2014. He also affirmed that the Japanese

government, businesses and associations in Kansai would continue to support and increase cooperation with Vietnam on trade, investment, development of small- and medium-sized enterprises, agricultural production, science and technology and promote people, youth and student exchanges.

On the same day, the Vietnamese Embassy and General Association of Overseas Vietnamese in Laos, the Overseas Vietnamese Association in Vientiane and Vietnam Business Association for Cooperation and Investment in Laos organized a meeting to welcome the Lunar New Year of the Goat 2015 for Vietnamese people in Laos.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Manh Hung expressed his happiness before the development of the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam -Laos. The bilateral trade increased by 14.9% or over USD1.44 billion in the last year, and keeping Vietnam as the second largest investor in Laos.

On this occasion, the Ambassador also thanked organizations, associations, and representative agencies of Vietnam in Laos and overseas Vietnamese and students for their contributions to the development of the friendly relations between the two countries.

Nguyen Duy Trung, Acting Chairman of the General Association of Overseas Vietnamese in Laos and Dao Minh Chau, Chairman of the Overseas Vietnamese Association in Vientiane thanked the Vietnamese Embassy for organizing the meeting to welcome the Lunar New Year Festival for overseas Vietnamese in Laos and committed to be united and strictly abide by the laws of the local country and strictly work towards enhancing the good relationship between the two.countries.

At the event, the embassy also displayed spring newspapers to provide true information about the development of the country to the overseas Vietnamese in Laos.

On February 7th - 8th, the Vietnamese Embassy and the Liaison Committee of the Vietnamese Community in Singapore organized a competition on making “Chung” cake to celebrate the upcoming traditional Lunar New Year Festival (Tet).

This was the first time, a contest, imbued with the national cultural identities, had been held in Singapore to link overseas Vietnamese living, working and studying in the country and enrich their spiritual life.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Singapore Nguyen Tien Minh and his spouse and a large number of overseas Vietnamese and students and representatives of Vietnamese businesses in the country eagerly took part in the competition./.
