Van Don striving to meet skyrocketing demand of tourists

6 months since implementing the province’s yearly action theme on improving quality and efficiency of services, Van Don District has yielded remarkable results especially in its advantageous sectors of tourism and services.

According to Van Don Office of Culture and Information, currently there are 168 accommodation establishments, 1946 rooms registered while the numbers in 2016 were only 35 and 138, respectively. The district has one 3-star hotel with 50 rooms; seven 2-star hotels with 150 rooms, the remaining are one-star hotels, hostels and houses for rent.

In the first 5 months of the year, the district welcomed more than 723,000 tourist arrivals, up by 29% from 2018 and equals to 60% of the year’s plan. The positive signal represents the sustainable growth of the local tourism industry which is creating jobs and higher incomes for locals.

As the number of tourists jumps in summer, the travelling demand to island routes, mainly to Quan Lan and Minh Chau spikes up, enterprises and travel agents have actively increased the number of boats, speedboats, vessels’ turns and improved the quality of services. The district has also invested in upgrading accommodation establishments to better meet demand of tourists.

Along with that, the district is exploiting community-based tours in Quan Lan and Minh Chau. This is a part of technical support project named “Boosting green growth in Ha Long Bay Area, Quang Ninh” funded by JICA. The community-based tours, even though being tested, are attracting an increasing number of tourists to Van Don.
