Less than a year of operation, Van Don International Airport is awarded with a number of prizes by airliners and international tourism organizations thanks to its high quality of services. With modern and synchronous equipment, and professional management and serving manner, the airport gradually affirms its foothold among transportation constructions in the province.
Van Don International Airport was put into operation since early 2019. This is the first privately-built airport in Vietnam.
After 10 months of operation, the airport received nearly 22,000 passengers on 4 air routes, namely Van Don – Ho Chi Minh City operated by Vietnam’s 3 biggest airliners (Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, Bamboo Airways) with 2 flights a day and 3 flights on Sundays; Van Don – Shenzen and Hunan (China) operated by Donghai Airlines and Quingdao Airlines respectively; Van Don – South Korea operated by Vietnam Airlines.
Despite being a newcomer, Van Don International Airport opened international flights on May 27th 2019, just 5 months after running domestic flights. It often takes other airports in the world 2-3 years to operate international routes after domestic routes.
In a short time, Van Don International Airport was recognized as one of the 5 best service airports in the first quarter of 2019 by Vietnam Airlines which had conducted a survey in 47 airports worldwide where it is exploiting air-routes; the best for service quality basing on 12,556 customers’ opinions in the campaign "Bright Smiles, Luxury Flights" launched by Bamboo Airways at 15 airports where it is operating; “Asia’s Leading New Airport 2019” at the World Travel Awards Asia & Oceania – an award is considered as Oscar of tourism industry.
On November 1st, Van Don – Da Nang air-route will be opened then next will be Phu Quoc, Nha Trang, and Buon Ma Thuot. As for international routes, Van Don International Airport eyes at Northeastern Asian markets, including China, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan, then Europe and Australia.
Being a newly opened airport, Van Don has affirmed its brand and foothold as a sping-board for Quang Ninh to attract investment with a target of increasing the proportion of service sector to 48% in 2020.
