Quang Ninh ready for a series of events celebrating the establishment of Quang Ninh City

A wide range of large-scale cultural, artistic, sporting and tourism activities will take place from late August, creating an atmosphere of excitement among local residents and visitors as Quang Ninh marks the establishment of the new city.

The first highlight is the ceremony announcing the National Assembly's Resolution on the establishment of Quang Ninh City and the presentation of the First-Class Labour Order, scheduled for the morning of August 28 at the Quang Ninh Exhibition of Planning and Expo Center, with around 900 delegates, including approximately 100 international delegates.

On the same day, the special art programme themed “Quang Ninh – A City Shining into the Future” will take place at 8:00 p.m. at Oct 30 Square and Tran Quoc Nghien coastal ring road. Around 100,000 delegates, local residents and visitors are expected to attend the event. It will promote the image of Quang Ninh City as a modern, civilised and culturally distinctive city, a heritage urban centre and a dynamic development hub of the northeastern region and the country. Running for approximately 120 minutes, the programme will feature performances by numerous well-known artists. A key highlight is an innovative rotating stage design, integrating the performance space with fireworks, a drone light show and a range of modern technological effects. The programme will be broadcast live on VTV1, VTV8, VTV9, VTVgo, Quang Ninh Media Group, as well as digital platforms and LED screens in localities across the province.

Ha Long shines with high-tech performances

72 tourist boats will take part in a light show on Ha Long Bay, a World Heritage Site, from August 26 to 28, adding a highlight to the series of celebratory events.

More than 70 tourist boats will take part in a light show on Ha Long Bay from August 26 to 28, from 6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The tourist boats will depart from Ha Long International Cruise Port and Tuan Chau International Passenger Port, travelling in a coordinated formation from the Bai Tho Bridge area to Cot 5 Beach. A special feature of the programme is that visitors will not only be able to watch the show from the shore but can also board the boats to enjoy meals while experiencing sound and light performances and fireworks on Ha Long Bay.

A spectacular display of around 3,000 drones lighting up the sky will be one of the highlights of the high-tech celebrations marking the establishment of Quang Ninh City.

In particular, the sky over Ha Long Bay is expected to be illuminated by 3,000 drones, combined with tourist boat light performances and 3D mapping technology, recreating distinctive images of Quang Ninh's culture, people, landscapes and development.

3D mapping will also be projected onto the exterior of the Quang Ninh Exhibition of Planning and Expo Center from August 28 to September 2.

A Vibrant Cultural, Commercial and Tourism Space

The 2026 “Together, Vietnam Moves Forward” walking programme will take place on August 30 at 48 locations across the province.

From August 28 to September 6, the OCOP and Food Fair celebrating the establishment of Quang Ninh City is scheduled to take place at the Quang Ninh Exhibition of Planning and Expo Center and along Tran Quoc Nghien coastal ring road. The fair will feature around 200 booths showcasing more than 1,560 products, including OCOP products and regional specialities from Quang Ninh and 28 provinces and cities across the country.

Also taking place from August 28 to September 2 is an exhibition on urban and rural planning, featuring digital applications and modern projection technology. The exhibition space will incorporate a digital scale model, 3D mapping, holograms, a digital twin, interactive maps, augmented reality and 360-degree projection, giving residents, visitors and investors a visual overview of Quang Ninh's development orientation through 2050, with a vision to 2075.

Sporting and tourism stimulus activities will also be rolled out in a coordinated manner. The 2026 “Together, Vietnam Moves Forward” walking programme will take place on August 30 at 48 locations across the province. At the provincial-level venue in the Hon Gai Beach area alone, around 4,000 people are expected to participate.

A tourism stimulus week will also be held as part of the series of events celebrating the establishment of Quang Ninh City. The “Quang Ninh – Welcome to the New City” programme is scheduled to run from August 24 to September 5, featuring promotional offers on accommodation, dining, sightseeing, entertainment and a wide range of tourism products.
