On June 3, at Bai Chay Tourism Area (in Ha Long city), a National meeting was jointly held by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Committee to respond to the WED (June, 5) and International Year of Sustainable Energy 2012. The meeting was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai; Minister of Environment and Resources Nguyen Minh Quang;Chairman of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Dang Ngoc Tung, (representatives of the United Nations), provincial leaders, representatives from provincial departments and sectors.
With the theme of “ Green Economy: Does it include you?”, this year WED focuses on the important role of green economy- a new model that helps to overcome the global challenging issues, such as climate change, overexploitation of natural resources, energy security and food security.
Speaking at the meeting, the Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai requested functional authorities to continue restructuring the economy in depth, reducing the use of natural resources, enhancing eco-industries and environmental services; at the same time minimizing the development of economic sectors that generate a great amount of waste and pollution. In addition, it is very important to green the lifestyle and implement sustainable consumption. Furthermore, the Deputy PM emphasized that there is an urgent need to reduce waste from green effects, increasing the use of renewable energies, adapting and mitigating bad impacts of climate change.
For his part, the Chairman of QNPPC Nguyen Van Doc had called for all working-class people, organizations and enterprises within the province to jointly take actions to protect the environment of Quang Ninh in general and Ha Long Bay in particular. He directed agencies and all political organizations to continue paying much more concerns about propaganda and education activities to raise people’s awareness of environmental protection, diversifying resources invested in environmental protection…
On this occasion, 51 organizations and individuals were granted with certificates of merits for their excellent achievements in environmental protection activities. After the meeting, the guests joined local people in planting trees at the dumping ground of Ha Tu Coal Mining Company.
