Within two days from April 6-7, the Mieu Ong- Mieu Ba festival took place at Nam Son commune in Ba Che district and lured lots of local people and visitors.
The Mieu Ong - Mieu Ba festival is held annually to commemorate the heroes' merit of defeating the aggressors and defending the country.
The opening ceremony of Mieu Ong - Mieu Ba Festival held on April 6 featured water procession, praying procession, palanquin procession, incense offering and releasing ceremony.
During the festival, a range of activities including traditional rituals and folk games attracted the participation of many locals and tourists.
The highlights of the festival included the drum-beating and art performances by the Quang Ninh troupe's artists.
Located in Nam Son commune, opposite to the banks of Ba Che river, Mieu Ba worships the princess of forest (Mau Thuong Ngan). According to folklore, she is the soul of mountains and rivers. Like many places in the mountainous and northern plain, in Quang Ninh, Mau Thuong Ngan is worshiped in many places, alone or together with the others in the temples and pagodas but this is the only temple in the estuary and ranked as provincial relics in Ba Che.
Mieu Ong and Mieu Ba were recognized as provincial historical relics on June 23rd, 2013 and the province has approved historic zone planning with an area of 5 hectares, including Mieu Ong, Mieu Ba, some other pagodas and items in 2014.
