The project of "model of Plastic waste collection by the community along the coast of Ha Long Bay" implemented by the Quang Ninh Farmers' Union, is supported by the Vietnam Small Grant Program under Global Environement Facility and United Nations Development Program (UNDP) with the total implementation cost of VND 3.2 billion within 2 years (May 2019-5/2021). The GEF SGP project includes propaganda, training activities, organizing seminars to raise awareness of plastic waste, establishing and effectively operating self-management models, sorting waste following 3R practices (reduce, reuse and recycle), and collecting plastic waste.
Currently, Japan is the main investor of a number of environmental protection projects in Quang Ninh, for examples: Consulting Contract with Nippon Koei Co., Ltd to set up Quang Ninh and Ha Long Bay’s Environment Planning to 2020, in vision to 2030; memorandum of understanding with Seiwa Denko Company and Chodai Company (Japan) on the cooperation in implementing the water environment improvement project in Ha Long Bay - World Natural Heritage by the application of an independent wastewater treatment system without collection and mixing ...
A number of other projects are being actively implemented, such as the project of "Promoting green growth in Ha Long Bay" supported by the Japanese Government with the total capital of nearly VND 90 billion. The project has helped improve the operation’s efficiency of the Provincial Environmental Protection Fund. In addition, 6 programs to promote policies to encourage energy management and saving has been on trial; the Community Ecological Tourism Board in Quan Lan island (Van Don district) has become operational and Advanced technologies have been applied in order to contribute to reducing the amount of environmental pollution into Ha Long Bay ...
In order to improve the effectiveness of cooperation with Japan, the Provincial Investment Promotion Agency (IPA) established Japan Deskto support the settlement of procedures and profiles for Japanese businesses, providing them with consult ato in during their project implementation.
According to leaders of the Environment and Natural Resources Department, international cooperation on environmental protection is one of the contents that the province is very concerning about so as to call for the cooperation of enterprises and international organizations, of which focusing on solutions to seek for ODA capital in order to ensure the progress of wastewater treatment projects so that they would becarried out effectively in the province according to the priority level 1 comprised in the Environmental Planning of Quang Ninh province till 2020, and in vision toward 2030.
