Large sea surface and many wind-sheltered areas are considered the advantages for Quang Ninh to develop fish cage farming. Quang Ninh has over 1,300 hectares with more than 10,000 cages raising fish in line with regulations on food safety satisfying the need of domestic market, exports, and seafood supply to local people and tourists.
Quang Ninh has 4 regions for concentrated cage farming, namely Van Don, Cam Pha, Hai Ha, and Dam Ha. The average yield of fish cultivated in this way ranges from 7,000 to 10,000 tons a year. Caged-fish in Quang Ninh has good taste thanks to the source of water. Cultivators often choose offshore areas with great water depth and frequent water circulation for farming. Due to the influence of Covid-19, Quang Ninh faces difficulties in consumption. Boosting domestic consumption is considered an effective measure at this time to maintain the stability of farming areas and the quality of the fish.
