Early Lunar New Year festival for island soldiers

Soldiers garrisoned on islands across the country are celebrating a festive Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday.

Although mainland people celebrate the nine-day Tet holiday in a week’s time, islanders are busy preparing for the festive event.

Soldiers and local authorities of Tra Ban island in the northern border province of Quang Ninh were full of festive cheer as a delegation of the Vietnam Navy Command Region 1 visited and presented Tet gifts there.

Rear admiral Pham Van Dien praised the efforts of the soldiers in protecting the nation’s maritime sovereignty and asked them to continue to maintain vigilance and a high state of combat readiness.

He wishes them good health and best wishes for an enjoyable warm Tet holiday on the island.
