As reported, the number of Chinese tourist arrivals to Vietnam is around 4-5 million each year, of which the number of Chinese tourist arrivals to QuangNinh occupies about 30%. This figure is also equivalent to the proportion of Chinese tourists in the total number of international arrivals to QuangNinh.
Mong Cai City has the most favorable conditions for tourism development cooperation with China's Guangxi. It is also the only locality in Quang Ninh that has both land and sea borders with China. The cooperation in tourism between Guangxi province and Mong Cai city has been effectively promoted since 2009.
So far, the amount of Chinese arrivals to Quang Ninh by road via Mong Cai International Border Gate accounts for about 70%. Currently, Ha Long - Mong Cai expressway is being constructed with an expectation of being completed in 2020. This expressway would help shorten the distance and driving time from Mong Cai to Ha Long. Once completion, it will connect with the Hai Phong - Ha Long and Ha Long - Van Don highways and linking with other major tourism destinations in the Northern part of Vietnam.
In recent years, the number of tourist arrivals from China to Quang Ninh by air has increased. Each year, Quang Ninh welcomes about 100 international cruise ship arrivals bringing around 100 thousand tourists mainly from Asia, especially China.
Being put into operation in late 2018, Van Don International Airport currently has four flight routes, including one domestic flight route and three international flight routes, including two routes connecting with Shenzhen and Hunan provinces of China. These two charter routes to China are effectively operating with a frequency of two-three flights per week.
As of September 17, 2019, the Van Don International Airport received a total of 1,416 flights, including 84 international flights carrying more than 6,500 passengers, mostly Chinese tourists. As planned, the airport will operate Hainan and Kunming (China) routes with a frequency of one flight a day, as well as the one from Japan and Thailand's Bangkok.
Quang Ninh always identifies China's tourism market as its key market. Thus, promoting cooperation and exchange between localities has regularly been maintained. Besides promoting cooperation in tourism development with Guangxi, Quang Ninh also boosts the cooperation with other Chinese localities, including Fujian, a coastal province of China.
It is clear that with the great efforts of both Quang Ninh and China's localities, the cooperation in tourism development between Quang Ninh and Guangxi in particular, and China in general has effectively promoted and developed in a sustainable way.
