Conference on improving the service quality for tourists visiting Ha Long Bay and Quang Ninh province

On August 12th ,the Provincial People’s Committee (PPC) organized the conference on Improving the service quality and safety for tourists visiting the Bay and Quang Ninh province . The conference was chaired by Mrs. Vu Thi Thu Thuy, Vice Chairwoman.

 Attending the conference, there were representatives of the Departments of:, Culture, Sports and Tourism;  Transport; Police; the  Ha Long Bay Management Department; and representatives from neighboring locals and relevant associations, namely:  Ha Long city, Van Don district, Cam Pha town; Tourism Association, Tourist Boat Association, and some tourist boat  businesses..Mr Nguyen Van Doc, Chairman of PPC attended and steered the conference.

At the conference, Mr. Ha Quang Long, Director of Culture, Sports and Tourism Department reported on the results of the implementation of  the Decisions 716/QD-UBND dated 15-3-2011 by  the PPC  regarding regulations on the management of daytrip boats and accommodation boats on Halong Bay. He also talked about a number of issues relevant to  tourism and service management within Quang Ninh province.

In conclusion of the conference, Mrs Vu Thi Thu Thuy emphasized that the Decision 716 must be more actively and effectively implemented and some shortcomings under the content of this Decision will be soon amended. The PPC will not encourage building of the new tourist boats. Especially, new tourist boats with wooden cover will not be licensed. To improve the service quality, tourist boat businesses must strengthen the quality of their human resource. The PPC will partly fund training courses for tourist boats’ staff members. However, for the long term run of these courses, businesses should be fully in charge. Mrs. Thuy also requested the locals, such as Van Don, Ha Long and Cam Pha to examine and readjust within August the operation of the tourist boats, floating houses, boats receiving and dropping workers on the Bay, especially firefighting and prevention activities and transport safety on the Bay.
