In 2016, the total number of tourist arrivals to Co To island was estimated to reach 300,000, up 166.7% against last year. Co To tourism sector received 676 domestic arrivals, equal to 386.2% of 2015 and earned total revenue of VND 400 billion. These figures showed that Co To tourism has recored positive changes in 2016.
This impressive achievement resulted from important events happened in Co To. The Decision 1288/QD-UBND dated 28/4/2016 by QNPPC recognized Co To as a local tourism destination. And according to the Decision 1436/CAT-PA72, foreigners who are legally living in Vietnam and have passports can enter Co To island without permission. These are two vital drivers for Co To island district to develop its tourism sector, bringing more international visitors to the district.
In order to raise the quality of tourism services, Co To district's leaders pay much attention to tourism culture, launched more tourism routes and promote more tourism attractions. They also attach importance to intensifying fire prevention, environmental protection, food safety, business climate and transport. Notably, many free English classes and training courses were provided to locals and employees working in tourism sector. More motels and hotels were built and upgraded, creating new appearance of Co To that help attract increasing visitors to the district.
Along with efforts of raising the service quality, the island district has improved transport infrastructure. A road that goes through the island is being built with total investment capital of over VND 119 billion. Particularly, two high-speed ships with a capacity of more than 300 passengers were newly built in order to transport tourists even in cases of strong winds and storms.
2016 is said to be a gold year of Co To tourism with great achievements. In 2017, the district aims to lure 350,000 tourists arrivals, earning over VND 500 billion in revenue.
