As a capital city of Quang Ninh and a world-class tourist center, Ha Long city has been trying its best to build a smoke-free tourism environment, thereby contributing to creating a civilized, polite and appealing tourist destination towards sustainable tourism development.
Over the past years, Ha Long Plaza Hotel has been recognized as one of the accommodation establishments in effectively building smoke-free tourism environment. Accordingly, the hotel installs “no-smoking” boards at the hall, reception desk, rooms, lobby, the dining room, and offices. However, an area for smokers is also available; and smoking in public areas are fined.
Not only Ha Long Plaza Hotel but also other tourism and sevice businesses in Ha Long city have strictly conducted anti-smoke measures. According to Mrs Nguyen Thu Huyen – Manager of Nostalgia Café – Backfire, no smoking signals are at all easy-to-see-corners of the restaurant, thus improving tourists’ awareness of smoke harmful effects.
Building Ha Long – a smoke-free tourist city has been launched for more than 10 years. To achieve this goal, Ha Long city has actively implemented measures against smoke harmful effects, including installing “no-smoking” boards at schools, hotels, restaurants, etc.
Along with that, restaurants and hotels in the city have proactively promoted a smoke-free working environment which is given in emulation criteria and issued fine regulations for violators. Furthermore, the city has also strengthened propaganda on improving locals and tourists’ awareness of smoking harms.
Besides, from the beginning of the year until now, the city has enhanced supervision activities to prevent tobacco harms at 12 tourism facilities, thus reminding and promptly sanctioning violation cases which don’t comply with the Law on prevention and control of tobacco harms.
These above-mentioned practical activities in the prevention and control of tobacco harms has contributed to building Ha Long into a civilized, friendly and trustful destination for tourists.
