Bio-toilet model should be multiplied

Building public restrooms and treating human waste are considered as complicated issues, especially environmental impacts which require high costs. In order to tackle the issues, since 2013, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has experimentally set up 20 bio-toilets at some households, schools and tourist sites in Ha Long City and Van Don District.

Bio-toilet is odorless, no discharge and without using water thus it is convenient, eco-friendly and reduces air pollution. Especially waste is easily collected for producing organic fertilizers serving the clean agriculture.

Tran Hung Dao Elementary School in Ha Long City is one of the first testers of the bio-toilet. Currently, the eco-friendly system is effectively operating, helping educate children about the environmental protection responsibility.

Bio-toilets are equipped and working well at some households in Van Don.

Bio-toilets on tourist boats and at tourist sites on Ha Long Bay are bringing benefits to not only individuals but also the whole community as waste from boats are eliminated.

The bio-toilet is considered as a practical environment solution especially to the major tourism areas in Quang Ninh.
