Thang Loi Island Commune is 40 km from the center of Van Don District. Though tourism is not well developed in the commune, many backpackers have traveled to the commune to discover its beauty.
Most of Thang Loi Commune’s attractions concentrate on small islands, for example The Vang, Tung Con, Ria…These islands are isolated with beautiful beaches. They are suitable for tourist groups who wish to stay overnight and leave hustle and bustle life behind. Tung Con Island even has a calm lagoon covering an area of 30ha and surrounded by limestone rocks and a lot of trees. According to local people, the temperature in the lagoon is 5C degree lower than the surroundings so summer here is cool.
Backpackers go to Thang Loi Commune on daily basis. They gather in groups of dozens of people, prepared meals themselves, and rent a boat to the commune. Because of lying in a windless region, Thang Loi Commune is bestowed with different kinds of seafood. But it is famous for squid. Locals can catch 10 kg of squids just in few hours a night.
Thang Loi Commune has a beautiful coastal line on which the old Van Don Trade Port located. There are still ruins of the port. On Mar 29th, 2003 the relic of Van Don Trade Port was recognized as a national one. The ancient relic includes 5 pagodas, one tower, and 2 berths which bear the cultural hallmark of Ly, Tran, and Mac Dynasties.
