Quang Ninh Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in combination with Institute of Marine Environment and Resources reached an agreement with Co To district Committee on detailed plan of Co To Sea Preservation Area andTran Island and the locations for building artificial coral reef in Co To district's sea area.
They consented to 3 locations on Little Co To Islet for artificial coral reef establishment with an area of 2,900m2 per each. The project is expected to start in Nov-Dec, 2019. Quang Ninh Department of Agriculture and Rural Development asked Co To District’s People’s Committee and Co To and Thanh Lan Border Stations to create favorable conditions for the contractor, thus ensuring the construction progress and the quality of the project.
Co To’s sea area embraces 40 islands and islets. Big Co To Islet, Thanh Lan Island, and Tran Island are the biggest ones which cover an area of 4,743 ha in total. Co To’s sea area – Tran Island not only plays strategic position in national defense but also is a large fishing ground rich in seafood and diversified in typical eco-system with corals, mangrove forests, and tidal beds. The establishment of Co To Sea Preservation Area on Tran Island is considered as an effective approach and practical step to prevent the current decline in marine and coastal biodiversity.
