117 films from 31 countries and territories in the Asia-Pacific region are being shown at the second International Film Festival which has opened in Hanoi.
Among them are 37 competing in the categories of Best Feature Movie, Best Short Film and the Network for Promotion of Asian Cinema awards.
Two Vietnamese films competing with 12 others for Best Feature Movie are Thien Menh Anh Hung (Blood Letter) and Dam Me (Passion).
According to director of the Vietnam National Cinema Agency Ngo Phuong Lan, the two films were selected from eight Vietnamese entries, which were initially proposed for competition at the festival.
Directed by Vietnamese-American Victor Vu, Blood Letter was released in January 2012. The movie tells a story of Nguyen Vu, a paternal grandson of the national hero Nguyen Trai, and his journey to find the truth of the injustice his family suffered and take revenge on those who got involved in the conspiracy.
Meanwhile, director Phi Tien Son’s Dam Me (Passion) depicts the quest of each member of a family to achieve their dreams. The film was completed in late October.
Hoang Tuan Anh, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said this film festival provides an opportunity for Vietnamese artists and actors to exchange cultural values and professional experience, and helps spread the image of Vietnam to the world.
The closing ceremony and awards presentations will be held at the Friendship Cultural Palace on November 29./.
