Quang Ninh wrapped the year 2018 with outstanding achievements in politic, economic, cultural, social and tourism fields. The below are 10 prominent milestones of Quang Ninh.
1. Quang Ninh tops 2017’s Provincial Competitveness Index (PCI) ranking. It also made a highlight when topping 2017’s Public Administrative Reform Index (PAR Index) rankings.
2. Quang Ninh was presented with the Digital Government Award in Tokyo, Japan by the Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organization (ASOCIO) with 20 country members. Accordingly, Quang Ninh is the first province of Vietnam to receive this noble award.
3. A number of the key transport projects were sucessfully completed in 2018. For instance, Van Don International Airport, Ha Long-Van Don expressway; Ha Long International Cruise Port; the 10-lane road in Ha Long city; Ha Long FLC complex; Quang Ninh Children Culture Palace, etc.
4. 11/11 socio-economic criteria were fulfiled. Quang Ninh gained the highest-ever budget collection with a total of VND 40,500 billion, including the total domestic collection of VND 30,500 billion.
5.Quang Ninh is the first province to successfully merge a great number of organisations and departments at district level, operating the Fatherland Front Office and socio-political unions at the provincial level; being the first locality to establish the Provincial Media Group under the Provincial Party’s Committee by merging the Quang Ninh Broadcast and Television station, Quang Ninh Newspaper Agency and othe media agencies of the province.
6. Education and health sectors gained great achievements. Specifically, being the winner of “The Road to the Olymia Pick” competition; and winning the first prize in the National English Olympic contest, bronze medal at the 19th Asian Physics Olympiad. Notably, in this year, Quang Ninh health sector welcomed the in-vitro fertilized 100th baby.
7. Quang Ninh successfully hosted the National Tourism Year 2018 with 45 events taking place in in the province. Quang Ninh was also chosen to be the venue to welcome the 15 millionth international tourist to Vietnam. The province received 12.2 million tourist arrivals, including 5.3 international arrivals.
8. The OCOP (one commune one product) program has been approved as the national target programme. Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue is the Head of the National Steering Committee of this Program.
9. Coal sector has been gradually recovered and made breakthrough growth. Coal consumption volume of the Vietnam Coal - Minerals Corporation in 2018 reached 40 million tons, up 4 million tons compared to the plan and up 4.4 million tons over the same period in 2017, there is no coal backlog.
10. The implementation of 2018’s topic on “protecting and rasing the quality of the natural environment” has made posstive changes in awareness and actions of the people and enterprises. Quang Ninh has determined to stop aquaculture exploitation by using extermination methods provincewide; prohibiting aquaculture exploitation in the Halong Bay World Natural Heritage site’s Core Zone; stopping the operation of the Nam Cau Trang coal Factory in Ha Long City.
