Van Don traditional festival opens
On July 16, the Van Don traditional festival opened at Van Don district’s Quan Lan commune to celebrate the 734th anniversary of the historic Van Don victory (1288-2022).
Historically, the Tran Dynasty army and people under the command of King Tran Khanh Du defeated Nguyen Mong invasions on the historic Mang River in Quan Lan commune area in 1288.
The traditinal festival is taking place at Dinh wharf next to Quan Lan communal houses and some old communal houses. It is held within 10 days, from the 10th to the 19th of the sixth lunar month every year.
The highlight of the festival is the traditional rowing and swimming festival which attracts various fishermen in Quan Lan commune. The racing teams are divided into two teams namely Dong Nam Van and Doai Bac Vo.
Before the main competition on July 16, or the 18th day of the 6th lunar month, these racing teams often organized many training sessions. The commune also held some amusing cultural activities such as dragon and lion dance performances, folk games competitions, etc. to make the atmosphere more joyful.
The festival has attracted lots of locals and tourists.
