FDI pledges reach 13.43 billion in first six months
Pledges of foreign direct investment (FDI) to Vietnam in the first half of 2023 were estimated at 13.43 billion USD, down 4.3% from a year earlier, according to the General Statistics Office.
Manufacturing was the largest recipient of FDI, with 8.46 billion USD, accounting for 63% of the total figure, followed by finance and banking, and property trading, with 1.53 billion USD each.
By locality, Hanoi received the largest share of FDI with 2.27 billion USD. In the meantime, with 1.39 billion USD, Ho Chi Minh City overtook Bac Giang to occupy second place.
In the first half of the year, Singapore was the biggest investor in Vietnam, pouring in a total of 3 billion USD. Japan came second with 2.21 billion USD, and China ranked third with 1.95 billion USD.
After declining for five straight months, FDI disbursement rose by a slight 0.5% to 10.02 billion USD in the first half of 2023.
