Campaign launched for Engineering Unit and Field Hospital ahead of UN peacekeeping missions

All preparations for the Vietnamese forces to be deployed South Sudan and the Abyei region have been nearly completed.

The Việt Nam Department for Peacekeeping Operations (VDPO) launched a campaign for Engineering Unit Rotation 3 and Level 2 Field Hospital Rotation 6 before their deployment to United Nations peacekeeping missions in South Sudan and the Abyei region.

As part of the event, under the Ministry of National Defence on Wednesday, officers and soldiers paid tribute at the Monument of Heroes and Martyrs on Bắc Sơn Street in Hà Nội and visited the Mausoleum of President Hồ Chí Minh.

All preparations for the rotations have been nearly completed. Personnel from both units are ready and committed to fulfilling their mission of contributing to UN peacekeeping efforts.

Major General Phạm Mạnh Thắng, Director of the VDPO, said the campaign focuses on maintaining unity, setting examples, strengthening discipline and encouraging proactive, innovative approaches to ensure mission success.

The campaign runs from September 18 to October 1, 2025. During this time, officers and soldiers are encouraged to enhance their knowledge and skills, foster solidarity among colleagues, local communities and international partners and achieve outstanding results while ensuring absolute safety throughout the mission.

They are also required to strictly follow the laws of Việt Nam, military discipline, the United Nations code of conduct, mission regulations and the laws of the host countries.

Furthermore, they must understand and respect the local customs, religions and beliefs of the communities they serve and their international colleagues to maintain proper decorum during their work.

Thắng emphasised that the successful completion of the mission by Engineering Unit Rotation 3 and Level 2 Field Hospital Rotation 6 will significantly enhance Việt Nam’s reputation and standing in the international arena.

According to the schedule, Engineering Unit Rotation 3, comprising 180 military personnel, will depart for the UNISFA mission in Abyei on September 24, aboard a UN-chartered flight departing from Nội Bài International Airport.

The accompanying equipment and supplies will be transported in the fourth quarter of 2024 and are expected to arrive in the first quarter of 2025, with a shipping duration of about 120 days.

On the same day, 63 personnel from Level 2 Field Hospital Rotation 6 will depart for the UNMISS mission in South Sudan from Nội Bài Airport aboard a C-17 aircraft provided by Australia.

Their equipment and supplies will be transported by air and by sea, with shipments expected in the fourth quarter of 2024 and delivery to the mission within approximately 90 days.
