Viet Nam mulls over visa exemption for short-term visits

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has suggested the need to mull over visa exemption for short-term visits in an effort to boost inbound tourism from potential source markets like China and India.

The ministry also proposed expansion of unilateral visa exemption policy for citzens from such countries like Australia, Canada, the U.S. and the remaining members of the European Union.

Currently, Viet Nam unilaterally waives visa requirements for citizens from 13 countries, namely Russia, Japan, South Korea, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and Belarus, with a period of stay of up to 45 days.

The Viet Nam should also consider visa issuance to foreign tourists at ports of entry and pilot issuance of three-year, five-year visa to boost luxury tourism segment.

In addition, the country should further simplify procedures for e-visa issuance, said the ministry.

Vie Nam began issuing e-visa to citizens of all countries at 42 ports of entry since August 15, 2023.

Below are ports of entry where foreigners can enter and exit Viet Nam with e-visa:
